BOPYDT has a strong governance model with Trustees chosen for their professional skills, networks in the community and a passion to see our local youth succeed.

Craig Nees

Chairman

With four decades of developing importing, warehousing and distribution companies, Craig is now channelling his entrepreneurial skills into the Bay of Plenty Youth Development Trust. He is passionate about helping young people and sees the importance of the Trust and its programmes for teaching youth core life values alongside the discipline and skills of boxing and fitness.

Craig has overseen development of large projects comprised of building development and fit-out and will be overseeing the project management and delivery.

Dr Dawid de Villiers

Trustee

Dr Dawid de Villiers is the Manager Learning Support at the Ministry of Education in the Bay of Plenty – Waiariki and has a background in leadership development. He has previously held leadership positions in various educational settings across secondary and tertiary education, including as Principal of two secondary schools in New Zealand.

He is passionate about supporting young people and ensuring that a future vision is in place to guide their dreams and aspirations.

Alex Elder

Trustee

Alex is a property and commercial law solicitor at Holland Beckett Law. He brings a broad range of skills to the Trust including extensive experience in assisting with the establishment and ongoing administration of various charitable trusts and entities throughout Tauranga.

He is passionate about his local community and is an enthusiastic and committed advocate of the Trust which supports youth in a meaningful and significant way.

Mat Floyd

Trustee

Mat is a chartered accountant and director at Ingham Mora. Mat has strong financial management and commercial experience which add real value to the governance of a charitable entity.

Mat sees this as an important opportunity to give back to the Bay of Plenty community in which he has spent most of his life.

Michael Sievwright

Trustee

Michael is the CEO of Trimax Mowing Systems who are exporters of professional mowing equipment with facilities in three countries around the world. He is also the chairperson of ExportNZ BOP and is an active member of the business community.

Michael was born in Tauranga and has a strong interest in transferring his governance experience to supporting the community work of the Trust.

Carol Ann Ngawati

(ONZM) Trustee

Carol comes to the BOPYDT with a life-time dedication to education, sport and addressing inequity. She was awarded the Order of Medit, in Queens’ birthday honours in services to Sport, Education and Maori in 2015.

She has been instrumental in the establishment of Whakatipu Kakano – first bilingual unit in West Auckland and He Wero O Nga Wahine Teen Parent Unit and has various roles on governance, including School Board of Trustees and a Marae Trust Board. Along with her late husband Gerard, Carol also established the National Maori Touch NZ 25 years ago.

Zane Smith

Trustee

Zane is the Area Prevention Manager for the WBOP Police with more than 30 years of experience and has led Investigative, front-line and specialist teams. A significant proportion of his career has been in the Criminal Investigation Branch including Officer in Charge of the WBOP Child Protection Team and the Bay of Plenty Youth and Community Manager.

Zane grew up in Rotorua moving to Lower Hutt when he joined Police. He and his family moved to Tauranga in 2007, working at both Tauranga and Rotorua Stations. Zane avidly supports programmes that enable our youth to develop, achieve their potential and excel.
