Te Ara Kaha is a new programme that has been created to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment for disengaged youth during the school holidays and weekends.
By offering this programme we aim to empower participants, foster positive personal development and contribute to the overall wellbeing of the Tauranga community. Through careful implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement, we believe this programme has the potential to create a lasting positive change in the lives of disengaged youth, shaping a brighter future for Tauranga youth.
Te Ara Kaha is a fun, exciting, adventure-based programme for youth. It has been designed to foster personal growth by providing them with outdoor adventure experiences in natural environments. The outdoor activities will offer opportunities for participants to engage in hands-on learning experiences and make meaningful healthy choices. At the same time, they will learn about the core values of the Bay of Plenty Youth Development Trust that are reflected in all its programmes – these are: Whakaute (Respect), Manaakitanga (Kindness), Manawaroa (Resilience), Takohanga (Responsibility) and Whakapono (Trust).
The programme is designed to carefully and purposefully guide taiohi, so that they develop their knowledge and understanding of themselves and of the world around them. By being exposed to challenging situations, taiohi will be helped to improve their self-confidence, decision-making and self-management skills.
The Te Ara Kaha programme aims to provide a transformative and empowering experience for disengaged youth. The kaupapa aims to create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where young people can explore their potential, build resilience, develop life skills, and discover new hope through adventure-based activities. By offering a range of challenges and opportunities, Te Ara Kaha strives to empower disengaged youth to realise their potential, foster positive relationships and embrace a brighter future.
